La Screamer 10LTD revient , les petits tailles de Screamer seront plus stable (un gros manque en 2010) et les grosses tailles 12-14 seront plus rapide et moins de pression en barre.

La Renegade, que j’ai rider. offrira moins de pression à la barre (moins je trouvais en 2010 , qu’elle en avait beaucoup trop) , La 11M va offrir plus de puissance.

Il y aura aussi des boards.

For 2011, Epic Kites is continuing the Screamer, Renegade, and Junior Pro lines. Each kite has had small refinements made to it and Epic claims that they were able to improve every kite in the Epic line.

Like in 2010, there will also be a 10m LTD Screamer, which is designed to be an ultra-performance and very powerful kite. The Epic bar is staying much the same, but features new colors and a new center hole to reduce wear.

For those who have children who want to start kiteboarding, the Junior Pro is a kite specially designed for kids. Epic founder Dimitri Maramenides filled us in on what we can expect from Epic for the 2011 model year.

Renegade

Why would a rider who loved the 2010 Epic kites want to upgrade to the 2011 versions?
The 2010 kites are still amazing kites, so if you just purchased a 2010 kite I would not recommend that you buy a 2011 kite yet, unless you want to upgrade the quiver and get a better and improved version.

Are any changes being made to the Epic Bar?
The bar will remain the same but we changed the colors on the bar and we made a new hole on the bar so now the line of the CL can move in and out easier. We also changed the thickness of the lines and made them thicker and stiffer so it is easier to unroll the lines.

What was the approach to making changes on the new kites?
We are able to succeed in this industry because we listen to customer’s needs and work with them. You will see not only that our kites are superior quality compared to other brands but the performance and the customer service is incredible. Don’t take my word for it, just give us a try and you will see.

Epic Screamer
What type of riders are the Screamer, Renegade, and Junior Pro 4 designed for?
The Renegade was designed for all around riders, from teaching to wave riding to power moves to jumping. In a few words it’s a kite that can do everything you desire. Personally I love the Renegade for the waves. Now on the other hand the Screamer was designed for riders looking for big jumps, big hang time, big kite loops, and a very fast kite.

The Junior Pro 4 was designed by Cameron Maramenides, the world’s youngest pro rider. The size will be 4m with 20 meter lines, but this is not a toy! It is a kite made for those of us who really want our kids to excel and not just put them on a smaller version of what an adult rides. This kite has the performance of the Renegade line but in a smaller size made for the young guns. The one pump, compact bridle, super easy relaunch, and incredible depower also make it a kite that is excellent to teach those just starting out. Watch out though, pretty soon junior will be out-jumping you!

[b]What was some of the rider input on the 2010 gear that you put into the 2011 Epic kites?[/b]
The response on the 2010 kites was amazing from riders across the world with varied riding styles and needs. Most of our customers told us not to change anything on the kites, but we knew we could improve on the performance and construction. With a few tweaks and small changes we made the 2011 kites even better than the 2010.

[b]What are the standout changes?[/b]
For the 2011 Screamer, we made the 12m and 14m sizes 12% faster and reduced the bar pressure by 8%. We then took the construction to a new level and reinforced key areas for added strength. The 7m and 9m Screamer have undergone small construction improvements and minor tweaks for enhanced unhooked performance.

The 2011 Renegade 9m meter was improved to make it 12% faster with 10% less bar pressure and we added reinforcements. The Renegade 6m was near perfect, but riders will enjoy additional reinforcements and minor tweaks on the bridle for the 2011 version. Our greatest challenge was updating the Renegade 11m. We wanted to make this kite more powerful with less bar pressure and faster than its predecessor.

To pull this off we went back to the drawing board and started from scratch, but we were able to make the 11m substantially more powerful and significantly faster with totally stability!

You are continuing the 10m LTD Screamer for 2011. How is this kite different than the standard Screamer?
The Limited Edition is an extremely powerful kite using the same design characteristics but with a slightly different profile making this 10m as powerful as any other 12m kite.

For 2011 we decided to tweak the plans of the 10 LTD to improve the direct feel. Now not only do you get the amazing hang time, but unhooking is even better than last year’s model with powerful grunt, amazing pop, and explosive jumps.

The fifth line setup is new to the Neo2, and was not a feature on the previous model.  When the safety is activated on the Neo2 the kite deploys to a 5th line that runs from the center of the kite and also includes and anti-crossover line over the 5th line stopping the kite from tangling during deployment to the 5th line.  This all allows full depower of the kite, and easy to reset safety that doesn’t leave the kite in a mess unlike when releasing to a front line safety.  After you have deployed to the 5th line is is possible to reset the chicken loop, hook back in and relaunch the kite.

HQ Neo2 Kite Bar

The new bar offers a “jerk off” safety release, giving you maximum safety potential by enabling you to pull the release with either the left or right hand.  There is now a 5th line flag out on the Neo 2 and you connect to this from the line next to the release.  This year HQ have also included retractable bungees, so when they are not holding your lines on the bar they retract back inside the bar.

Construction :

La Montana 5 est très bien finie, elle est construite en Europe avec des critères de qualités plus pointus qu’en Asie.
On remarque l’absence de mylar sur les ouvertures des caissons sur le bord d’attaque. Ce n’est ni un oubli, ni une économie, mais bien une volonté des designers de permettre à l’aile de mieux se déformer en vol et ainsi d’absorber les perturbations du vent avec une facilité déconcertante.

La barre est simple et efficace, la trim est un clamcleat situé au bout du Bordé/Choqué, c’est simple mais efficace.

On retrouve les mêmes systèmes de sécurité que chez Ozone ou d’autres marques encore. A savoir, une première sécu larguant les avants et enfin une sécu sur le chicken loop pour se désolidariser de l’aile.

Les lignes sont de la marque Cousin de très bonne qualité, les avants sont regroupés sur une seule ligne centrale et se divisent en 2 au niveau de l’aile (même système que sur les Frenzy et Manta chez Ozone).

Comportement en vol :

La Montana 5 est stable, aucune fermeture constatée (même en bord de fenêtre).
Le virage est rapide, on n’a pas l’impression d’avoir une 12m² au bout des lignes.
Elle développe une puissance constante même pendant le loop de l’aile.
Elle se cale rapidement dans la fenêtre ce qui permet de se concentrer sur son ride.
Ce kite à toutefois une légère tendance à surborder, mais le problème est réglé en trimant légèrement les avants (1 ou 2 cm). Cela provient je pense, des lignes qui se sont certainement légèrement étirées.

En ride :

La sensation est incroyable, dès la première prise en main on est tout de suite à l’aise avec ce kite. Il n’y à aucun temps d’adaptation nécessaire.

L’impression d’avoir toujours ridé cette aile est présent dès le premier bord !

La Montana 5 est vraiment très confortable à utiliser, la pression en barre est parfaite pas trop dur mais pas trop molle non plus ! Juste ce qu’il faut pour bien sentir le kite.
On sait parfaitement ou se situe l’aile dans la fenêtre sans avoir besoin de la voir.

Le pouvoir ascensionnel de la Montana 5 n’a rien à envier aux stars du marché !
Ca plane du tonnerre !

Un petit bémol vient tout de même ternir ce tableau idyllique : le dépower de cette aile est un peu en retrait par rapport à la concurrence, mais cela n’est pas si gênant au final !
Pour mon gabarit, je dirais que la plage haute de cette voile se situe aux alentours des 18 kt (ce qui pour une 12m² est tout à fait dans les normes !)

Les + :

Prise en main intuitive
Sustentation énorme
Rapport puissance / virage excellent

Dépower moins bon que la concurrence

Conclusion

Grosse surprise ! Je ne m’attendais pas à prendre une claque pareille avec cette voile.
HQ apparaît en France comme une marque de second plan, avec la MONTANA 5, je peux vous dire que les pendules ont été remises à l’heure !
Le rapport qualité/prix de cette voile est imbattable !
Une voile à conseiller à tout le monde.
Attention toutefois, si vous la testez, vous risquez bien de l’adopter !

Ce cerf volant est vraiment un bon compromis pour débuter dans le monde du kite de puissance en toute sécurité

Permet de pratiquer le powerkite autant sur un environnement tereste que aquatique ., grace au caisson fermées de la Hydra qui garde le cerf-volant gonflé même si celui-ci tombe dans l’eau
